The Playstation 3 unfortunatley suffers from many more faults than either the PS1 or the PS2 before it. The older 40, 60 and 80 gigabyte machines are failing at a rapid rate with a fault cased by rapid heating and cooling generally when playing the latest games such as Modern Warfare which push the architechture of the older versions of the PS3 to the point where they fail and need repairing. It also appears that the lasers in these older versions of the Playstation 3 have a limited life.
The architecture of the newer PS3 Slim is much more capable of playing the latest games and whilst the lasers do suffer from problems, they don't wear as easily as the laser in the earlier versions.
The laser in the Playstation 3 is the most complex laser in any current games console due to the Blu-Ray component of it. These lasers do wear out over time and need replacing. The symptopms of a faulty laser are as follows
If your PS3 is suffering any of the above symptoms then the laser requires replacing at a cost of £70 including installation and a 90 day warranty.
By routine we always attempt to clean the lasers first, if this resolves the problem then you will be charged £35
The PS3 can sometimes suffer from a complete loss of power which is the result of a fault within the power supply. This fault can be repaired for £55 which includes a replacement power supply which comes with a 90 day warranty.
We see many Playstation 3 systems that are having problems reading the onboard Hard Drive or can't read the original hard drive. We also frequently come across machines that wont boot properly because their has been an error with an update and the machine needs a rebuild.
We can repair these faults for £45 including a 3 month warranty (If hard drive needs replacing there will be an extra charge of £25.00 for the replacement drive and re-build)
