Thin vertical lines running down your screen can be the sign of a number of problems.
The first is that the LCD itself has become faulty and will need to be replaced. The cost of this starts from just £65 fitted depending on the make and model.
The second is that the cable that goes between the motherboard and the back of the screen has developed a fault. Majority of these cables run through the Left hand hinge and can wear over time. Replacement cables fitted start from £35 again dependent on make and model.
The final fault is based normally around the NVidia graphics chipset where over time the solder that holds the chip on and connects it to the motherboard becomes stressed and cracked giving an intermittent connection and will eventually fail. This can sometimes be repaired by reflowing the area around the graphics chip however it can also mean that the machine is beyond economical repair.
There is no real way of detecting which fault your laptop has developed without having a look at it.
